Accountant in Leeds offering his top IT handy shortcuts in August 2019!
- Ever had to do a repetitive task in excel? “F4” is a really handy shortcut that repeats the previous action, whether merging cells, applying a format to text or inserting new cells.
- Extremely important shortcuts: the bread and butter of anyone working in Office: Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V Or cut, copy and paste. Using the keyboard shortcuts is far quicker than the mouse functions for these commands. Use the cut command instead of copy to save having to delete the original. In excel, the cut command will preserve any formulae within the cut area, and linking to it. Copy will merely copy the formulae to its relative position on the worksheet, so make sure you check your formulae when using these commands. #handyshortcut
- Another staple shortcut: “Ctrl + Z” and “Ctrl + Y” – These represent undo and redo. Very useful when you accidentally deleted that column of essential data, but also for experimenting with your worksheets. For example, you can cut and paste a table to elsewhere, decide it was better off in its previous position and just ctrl + z your way back.
- “Middle-click” – Is a very handy shortcut, but oft under-used button.
Next time you’re browsing and want to open a link in a new tab, don’t right-click and select the option; simply middle click the link! Want to close a tab? Just middle click the tab and it will go away!
It can also often be used within Microsoft Office to trigger and de-select scrolling by mouse movement.
Still feeling like it’s all a bit much? We can help with everything you need, bookkeeping (we love Xero and Sage!), company secretarial and even help building your business!
