Job Description

We are independent firm of Chartered Accountants based in Horsforth, due to continued growth we are now looking for a part-time payroll and personal tax administrator to join our team.

We are looking for someone to work 25 hours per week across a minimum of 4 days a week, this will be a partial job share so the successful candidate should be able to work Wednesday and Fridays.

You will be responsible for managing and processing payrolls across a diverse portfolio of clients, monitoring and responding to queries into the payroll inbox.  Reporting into the Tax Manager, you will also be responsible for the preparation of personal self-assessment tax returns, drafting emails to clients and speaking to HMRC on our client’s behalf.  This role requires you to have experience in either payroll or tax, you should have a good attention to detail, an ability to work to tight deadlines and be able to handle queries and issues efficiently to provide excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Processing monthly payrolls to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements
  • Liaising with clients to gather payroll data and answer queries
  • Keep up to date with payroll legislation changes and implement any changes accordingly
  • Set new payrolls up and provide support and training to new clients on the payroll process
  • Prepare individual self-assessment tax returns
  • Prepare capital gains tax computations
  • Liaise with HMRC on client queries
  • Respond to personal tax client queries.
  • Building a working relationship with clients
  • Other responsibilities and ad hoc duties as required

  • Advanced user of Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications

Experience required:

Extensive experience in either payroll administration or personal tax, ideally within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau

Strong working knowledge of current payroll or tax legislation, ideally both

Experience of managing payrolls for multiple clients across a range of industries; or

Experience of producing personal tax returns
